Randwick XI complete perfect season

Wellington Indian Sports Club's Randwick XI have completed a perfect season, going unbeaten right through 2022 by winning all 20 games.

After securing the 2021 R2 Trophy in their inaugural season, they gained some valuable recruits and backed it up convincingly in 2022 with the R1 title.

The Randwick boys met their rivals the Money Team in the first round of the finals and managed to secure a 5-1 win to go straight through the Grand Final on Sunday, where they faced Victoria University. It was a hard-fought game, with captain Jaynesh Bhana saying, "Varsity came out to play and probably caught us slightly off guard, but as has been the case all season we hit the accelerator when it counted."

The boys managed to get up 3-1 by the end of the 3rd quarter, only for Varsity to clinch a goal, setting the stage for a tense finish. The Randwick boys essentially played the last 6 minutes of the game with 9 players, and Bhana gave full credit to the defensive unit saying, "the composure of the back four and the midfield was remarkable towards the end, we absorbed the pressure and managed to hold them out and run the clock down".

A cloud of mystery now surrounds the Randwick XI as to what they do next, having won 30 games in a row dating back to last year, the pressure is now on them to ensure they keep their record intact. As for what's next, Bhana said, "the boys just want to enjoy the win, and we'll regroup later in the year to see if we want to try our luck in P2, or go after some of the other Indian's teams in P3".
